Damak, Birtamode, Kakarbhitta and Bhadrapur have quietly become one of the busiest commercial belts in eastern Nepal. Schools, hospitals, hardware suppliers, cooperatives, travel agencies and export businesses all operate here at real scale. Almost all of them now need software — a website, a booking system, digital ads, an inventory tool that isn't a spreadsheet.
What most of them don't have is a way to judge whether the IT company they're talking to is any good. This guide is written to fix that. It applies whether you eventually work with us or with someone else.
Why local businesses in Jhapa get burned
The failure pattern is remarkably consistent. A business pays somewhere between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 40,000 for a website. It gets built on a pirated theme, hosted on whatever shared account the freelancer already owned, and handed over with no documentation. It works for a while. Then something breaks, the freelancer has moved to Kathmandu or abroad, and nobody knows who owns the domain.
- The domain is registered in the developer's name, not the business's — so renewing it becomes a negotiation.
- Hosting is on a shared reseller account with no backups, so a single failure loses everything.
- The site is a page builder template with 40 plugins, so it takes eight seconds to load on Ncell mobile data.
- There is no Google Business Profile, no analytics, and no Search Console — so nobody can tell whether the site ever brought in a single customer.
- Nothing is written down. No handover doc, no credentials list, no invoice describing what was actually delivered.
None of these are technical problems. They're process problems, and you can screen for all of them before you sign anything.
Nine questions to ask before you hire anyone
Ask these in writing and keep the replies. A competent partner will answer all nine without hesitating; the answers themselves matter less than whether the company has clearly thought about them before.
- Whose name will the domain be registered under? (Correct answer: yours, always.)
- Where is it hosted, what are the backup intervals, and how do I restore from a backup?
- Will I get every credential — domain registrar, hosting, database, email, analytics — in writing at handover?
- Is the source code mine? Will it be handed over in a Git repository I control?
- What is the page load time target on 4G mobile, and how will you prove you hit it?
- Will you set up Google Search Console, Google Analytics and a Google Business Profile as part of the project?
- What exactly is included in support after launch, for how long, and what does it cost after that?
- Can I speak to two clients you delivered for in the last year?
- If we stop working together, what does the handover look like?
What things actually cost in eastern Nepal
Honest ranges as of 2026, for work delivered properly — meaning custom design, mobile-optimised, indexable by Google, with analytics configured and credentials handed over. Quotes far below these ranges are usually a template with your logo dropped in.
| Project type | Typical range | Usual timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Business website (5–8 pages) | Rs. 45,000 – 1,20,000 | 3–5 weeks |
| School / college website with portal | Rs. 1,20,000 – 3,50,000 | 6–10 weeks |
| E-commerce store with payment gateway | Rs. 1,50,000 – 5,00,000 | 8–14 weeks |
| Custom business software (inventory, CRM) | Rs. 3,00,000 – 15,00,000+ | 3–6 months |
| Mobile app (Android + iOS) | Rs. 4,00,000 – 20,00,000+ | 3–8 months |
| Annual maintenance & hosting | Rs. 12,000 – 60,000 / year | Ongoing |
The cheap end of each range is real and legitimate for a small, focused scope. What isn't legitimate is a Rs. 15,000 e-commerce store — that price cannot cover payment gateway integration, testing and security, so something is being skipped, and it's usually the part you find out about after launch.
Local SEO matters more here than national SEO
If you run a business in Damak, ranking nationally for a broad term is mostly vanity. What pays is showing up when someone three kilometres away searches on their phone. That is a different and much more winnable game.
- Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile — categories, hours, photos, service area. This single free asset outperforms most websites for local searches.
- Keep your name, address and phone number byte-identical everywhere online. Google treats 'Damak-8' and 'Damak 8' as weak evidence they're the same business.
- Ask satisfied customers for Google reviews, consistently. Review count and recency are direct local-pack ranking factors.
- Write pages that name the places you serve — Damak, Birtamode, Kakarbhitta, Bhadrapur, Itahari — because that's the language your customers actually type.
- Get listed in genuine local directories and the Jhapa chamber listings. Ignore anyone selling '500 backlinks'.
We cover the technical half of this in more depth in our guide to ranking a Nepali website on Google, and the money side in our breakdown of website costs in Nepal.
Local partner or a Kathmandu agency?
Both work. The trade-off is real and worth being clear-eyed about.
| Factor | Local team (Jhapa) | Kathmandu agency |
|---|---|---|
| Face-to-face meetings | Easy, same week | Rare, usually video |
| Cost | Typically 20–40% lower | Higher overheads |
| Understanding of local market | Strong | Varies |
| Deep specialist skills | Narrower bench | Broader bench |
| Response time for urgent fixes | Usually faster | Ticket queue |
For most businesses in the region, a competent local team wins on cost, speed and accountability — provided they pass the nine questions above. For a genuinely unusual technical problem, a specialist matters more than proximity.
The best test of an IT partner isn't the launch. It's what happens eight months later when something breaks and you need someone to pick up the phone.

Frequently asked questions
Which IT company should I choose in Damak or Jhapa?
Choose based on ownership and process, not price. The company should register the domain in your name, hand over all credentials and source code in writing, set up Google Search Console and Analytics, and give you references from clients delivered in the last year. SigmoIT is based in Damak-8, Jhapa and works to exactly that standard.
How much does a website cost in Jhapa, Nepal?
A properly built business website of 5–8 pages typically costs between Rs. 45,000 and Rs. 1,20,000 in eastern Nepal, delivered in three to five weeks. E-commerce stores range from Rs. 1,50,000 to Rs. 5,00,000 depending on payment integration and catalogue size.
Is it better to hire a local IT company or one from Kathmandu?
For most businesses in eastern Nepal, a competent local team is better: costs are typically 20–40% lower, meetings happen in person, and urgent fixes get handled faster. A Kathmandu agency makes more sense when a project needs a specialist skill that no local team has on the bench.
Do you work with businesses outside Damak?
Yes. We serve clients across Birtamode, Kakarbhitta, Bhadrapur, Itahari, Biratnagar, Dharan, Kathmandu and Pokhara, as well as international clients in the US, UK, Australia and the Gulf.
